UICGIS LISTSERV a mailing list with issues and announcements relevant to the UIC GIS community.

What is a LISTSERV list?
	A LISTSERV list is a mailing list of subscribers with a common topic of 
	interest.  When a subscriber 'posts' an e-mail to the LISTSERV, the message 
	is automatically copied to all subscribers to the list.
 
How do I subscribe to UICGIS?
	To subscribe to the UICGIS listserv send an e-mail to listserv@uic.edu 
	with the following command in the message area:
		subscribe uicgis [your name]

	You will receive a confirmation reply from the listserv.  Please be sure
	to file it for future reference as it contains useful information on 
	setting options for your subscription.

	To remove yourself from the UICGIS listserv use the following command:
		signoff uicgis

How do I post to the UICGIS listserv?
	Send your posting to:

		uicgis@listserv.uic.edu
	
	The posting will be automatically distributed to all subscribers to the UICGIS 
	list.

	Note that this is a different address from the one used to perform 
	administrative functions such as subscribing or getting information about
	archived postings. 


How do I get general information and archived postings for UICGIS?
	The following commands must be sent to  listserv@uic.edu.

	To obtain general information about the list including subscribers:
		review uicgis  

	To obtain a list of archived UICGIS postings:
		index uicgis 
	
	The previous command will return a list of archive files with names 'logYYMM'
	where YYMM is the archive date. You may then obtain a specific archive list 
	by requesting:						  				
		get uicgis logYYMM  

Where can I get more information about LISTSERV?
	Send the following command to listserv@uic.edu:
		info refcard

	You will be sent a complete list of LISTSERV commands including complete 
	syntax for the above commands.  There are also commands for modifying your 
	subscription options.
	
	You can also simply send the command help to get a list of most commonly used commands.
 
	You may also wish to consult the UIC Computing Center LISTSERV site, 
	which contains general information about LISTSERV and links to manuals.
