                   SUMMARY OF DECEMBER 1997 MEETING
The previous meeting of the Northeastern Illinois ARC
Technology Users' Group was held at the CHICAGO
      EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS CENTER on the
afternoon of 16 December 1997. Mr. Andrew Bieber of ESRI-
Chicago showed a series of video tapes from ESRI's 1997
annual conference. The videos highlighted various topics
concerning ESRI products, areas of applications, and future
vision in an informal and fun "MTV"-style. Mr. Peter Thum of
GeoAnalytics gave his professional evaluation of each video
subject. Mr. Thum, as an ESRI beta site manager, affirmed
the direction that ESRI is taking and used his real experiences
      to support his contentions.

  SUMMARY OF OCTOBER 1996 MEETING
The previous meeting of the Northeastern Illinois ARC
Technology Users' Group was held at the offices of
the Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) on the
morning of Tuesday, 29 October 1996. Mr. Peter Thum
of GeoAnalytics did an admirable overview of
Librarian and an introduction to the functionality of
ArcStorm. Ms. Dawn McWha of McDonald's Corporation
graciously gave a detailed presentation of an
application utilizing Librarian as a means for
regional offices to access information from
  McDonald's main databases.

Membership discussed and were willing to contribute
$1.00 each time they attend a meeting to help defray
costs of printing and maintaining the mailing list.
We will collect $1.00 per person at January's
  meeting.

SUMMARY OF JULY MEETING
The previous meeting of the Northeastern Illinois ARC
Technology Users' Group was held at the offices of the
Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC) on the
afternoon of Tuesday, 23 July 1996. A panel discussion was
held to discuss the complexities of data sharing with an
emphasis on institutional issues. This panel consisted of Mr.
William Holland of GeoAnalytics and Mr. Max Dieber of NIPC.
After each participant presented their view on organization
theory and its applicability to GIS, the audience broke into
small groups to continue this discussion and then reconvened
to present their observations to the group as a whole.

There is still a call for a volunteer to assume the vacant
position of corresponding secretary. Submitted by: Nina
