CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Tuesday, April 15
Two concurrent seminars are being offered. Seminar registration includes
continental breakfast, lunch, and break refreshments. A certificate of
completion will be provided to attendee.
Introduction to GIS
Organizers: Zorica Nedovic-Budic, University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign, and Kingsley Allan, Illinois State Water Survey.
This seminar is intended for new users of GIS and those who want to learn
more about the fundamentals of GIS. The morning session will consider the
basic concepts of GIS, discuss the sources of digital data available for
Illinois, and present several example applications of GIS. The afternoon
session will provide hands-on experience using a GIS. No prior exposure to
GIS is necessary.
Managing GIS in an Organization
Organizer: Robert Krumm, Illinois State Geological Survey.
This seminar is designed for the members of a management team and GIS
project leaders who are presently implementing or planning for GIS
technology in their organization. A brief overview of GIS will provide
background for the newly initiated, but the focus of the seminar will be on
the aspects of planning, budgeting, staffing, data collection, project
piloting, and hardware/software selection that must be considered if GIS is
to be successfully implemented.
IMAC
The Illinois Mapping Advisory Committee (IMAC) was established in 1975 and
designated by the U.S. Geological Survey, National Mapping Division, as the
primary contact for input and recommendations regarding mapping programs and
priorities. IMAC is an independent advisory group and will hold a meeting
after the seminars have concluded on Tuesday afternoon. An agenda will be
sent to all past IMAC attendees prior to the meeting. For further
